Can someone help me understand SDAP and CAIP for 17C roles?

So I was doing some research on 17C and I see that there are SDAP and CAIP payments. How would we qualify for the specific jobs? Do we apply or do we test out?

Both CAIP and SDAP are based on the role you fill as a 17C and your time/proficiency in that role as well. This is split out into different tiers, again based on what role you fill.
NOTE: CAIP and SDAP are *NOT* automatic, and must be applied for once you meet the requirements. Also, as you meet the requirements for the next level (Basic to Senior to Master) you can apply for the increased pay. Also take into consideration, that means more responsibility and expectations.
My biggest piece of advice though is to not worry about that until after you complete the schoolhouse and make it to your unit. CAIP and SDAP is nice, sure, but don’t let it be your primary motive. It’s a job that requires a lot of hard work, studying and motivation both in and out of the school/office.
Good luck in the course.

Roger that SSG, yeah it's something I just found out about and figured it was a nice bonus to having a fulfilling position. And yes, I love cyber security actually on TryHackMe as we speak. Not for monetary purposes but how do we get to the next levels such as senior and master?

It’s typically based on training, time in the current role and recommendation. When you get to your unit, you’ll be assigned to a role for which you’ll get training and experience. After you’ve met the requirements for the next level (additional training, experience) you’ll get recommended to move forward. All that info is best found in the unit you’re assigned to when it’s time to focus on it.

Go to the cyber school website for the packet to apply. 17C is not really an entry level MOS. They take IET Soldiers but if you don't have IT experience you will not be accepted to the MOS.

SGT (Join to see) I believe 17C all get SDAP. There are certain MOS's who all get SDAP, but it's also based on working in the position. So you're not authorized it until you are MOS qualified and working a 17C job. If you were to be assigned to an MOS immaterial position like IG or a WTU you would no longer be working as a 4187 7C and would no longer receive SDAP

SFC (Join to see) - Roger Sgt, ok that makes sense. Would you happen to know if that's a choice or is it based on Army needs if we would be put in a 17C role or not?

SGT (Join to see) You'll always be placed into a 17C role, especially if you're receiving SDAP. SDAP is for special duty assignments that are a high priority to the Army. That means that the Army needs you to be a 17C more than it needs you to do anything else. But if you were to go to a broadening assignment down the road then you might lose your SDAP
