Currently serving as an 11B in the MN guard and I’m looking into going WOFT and switch to active. Just looking for any advice. Even though I know I won’t fail the thought of what would happen if I fail bothers me. Would I get another shot at the part I failed at or would I just get sent to an infantry unit since I’m already an 11B?

Simple answer: Failure is not an option. Do what it takes to complete the training. Failing or quitting should not be your mindset. Have you talked to a recruiter? It stands to reason that if you failed, that you would have an obligation to fulfill. You state that you know you will not fail the course, so why are you asking this question? Below is old data so talk to a recruiter if you feel that you will fail.

You do not need a four year degree to go to WOC School and the army flight program. You cant swing a cat on Ft Rucker without hitting a high school to flight school/ street to seat kid.

If you're already in the Army the paper work you fill out basically says that upon being accepted into the program you will owe the Army 6 years pass or fail, because even if you fail your came from an MOS and can be sent back, and after completing flight training you have a 6 year commitment.

As far as the street to seat guys, the ones that are in my class told me that because they have no other Army job to fall back on, they would be discharged if they could not complete the program for some reason.

I know that when it comes down to everything I can do it. Failure isn’t an option but in the back of my mind there’s that thought that for some reason out of my control I fail (maybe if some accident happens). I just want to make sure I wouldn’t be stuck in a 6 year commitment as a 11B. Thanks for your comment it’s greatly appreciated Sgt.

I'm supposing WOFT is Warrant Officer Flight Training. I taught Air Force pilot training for 3 years. We had many student pilots fail. The Air Force training system is set up to deal with small or transient failures. You might fail at accomplishing a maneuver to standard. If it's your first attempt, then the failure is almost expected. It won't be ground to fail you on the entire mission. Later on as proficiency is expected, failing a maneuver leads to a failed mission. Normally a student who fails a mission is retrained in the maneuvers they failed. Sometimes it is simulator training, ground learning, or actual flight training. Then they are retested on those maneuvers. If everything goes okay, and it usually does, then the student continues on. The problem comes when a student fails a major training phase event or evaluation. The first of these in fixed-wing training is soloing out in the primary trainer. (To solo the student had to accomplish three safe takeoffs and landings by themselves. Normally two touch & go's and one full stop landing.) If the instructor pilot is unwilling to let the student fly solo, then the student was normally allowed two extra training flights and another try to solo with a different instructor. If that didn't work, then they started down the elimination pathway. If I remember right it was another two retraining flights and another chance to solo, this time with a senior instructor, such as the squadron ops officer. If the old head IP wouldn't "step out" on the student, then they were grounded and referred to an elimination review. The review could decide to eliminate them (wash out) or send them back to another class that had not started the phase of training which the student had failed (wash back). In the Air Force, the wash out was stall a commissioned officer on active duty, so they were assigned a new AFSC and sent to another type of training then sent PCS to a different base.

I'm guessing the Army has a similar approach. They don't want to waste their training investment in the student pilot unless they absolutely must. Even then, if the student is already a Warrant Officer I can make a case that they couldn't be demoted and reassigned as an enlisted person. They should be trained to be a WO in a different MOS. However, if the WOFT student is a "WO Cadet," and not a Warrant Officer, then I can see a wash out being sent back to their previous MOS.
