I was slotted to attend MPI school starting tomorrow. However I had been in contact with someone who tested positive for covid so I was put on quarantine, therefore missing my school date. This slot has taken me six months to get into, so can I slide into the next class or will I have to wait until another slot opens up?

The only accurate answer you will get to that question will be from your training NCO or the schools manager. COVID has really screwed a lot of things up. I would suggest getting on the wait list for the next school date and then being there at the school in case there is a no show. Chances are due to COVID there will be. If you are at the school house when that happens, and you have everything except for your orders, you can often slide right into the slot and have your orders cut that day. You will end up covering the cost of travel, at least one way, but it it is a case of a wait list, that is likely your best option. I know a soldier who did this. But, by no means, be a no show. Get in touch with your training NCO immediately if you haven't already. Call them at home if you have to.

SGT (Join to see) you generally cannot walk onto courses, especially from OCONUS. The issue is that in order for your DTS to be approved you need to have a valid ATRRS slot. If you don't have a valid ATRRS slot and your command approves travel for TDY that you aren't approved for then it's technically fraud. The way around this is to take personal leave, personally procure a ticket, fly to the school and attempt to walk on. If you are accepted then your unit approves your DTS and reimburses you for the ticket up to the amount that DTS authorizes. If you aren't accepted then you just ate the price of a ticket and some personal leave. Legally, you can't use your GTC for the ticket either, in case you aren't accepted into the course because you can't use your GTC for personal travel.

SFC (Join to see) - Well said. SFC Jason Boyd you are exactly right. It's a gamble. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't. If it were my career on hold, and I had the means, I'd risk it. It would be a big risk though.

SFC Melvin Brandenburg I would too, as a SFC. When I was a SPC like her, I would have never been able to afford a ticket like that with a spouse and two kids. Hopefully her command is able to get her a seat sooner than later

Class seats are a finite resource. You can't just show up late to a class or slide into the next class. There is a maximum number of seats per class that ATRRS is allowed to slot. You'll have to get the next available open class seat.

That’s a question for your Command and the school house to answer
