Agree with CPT, has nothing to do with who is POTUS. India's problem is past treaties on Kashmir which limits it's military response to not much. It's arms in the Kashmir are limited by treaty and I think so is the number of overall troops. China knows it and is taking advantage.

China's official Xinhau News yesterday cheered Trump leaving the White House and lauded Biden. Trump's nickname could be "Hammer of the Chinese," Biden will probably negotiate like the Obama administration did with Iran, giving away the farm for vague promises. If I were India, I would look to my priming and keep my powder dry. China WILL take advantage.

I have always been of the opinion that if it is in the national interest to engage in an armed conflict, it ought to be worth stomping everything that opposes you flat. Instead we are saddled with politicians that think you can fight wars without killing or offending anyone. That hasn't worked out very well.

CPT Lawrence Cable, politically, if the problem ensues and China is kept on it's edge of the LAC through winter, public sentiments for the Narender Modi government will rise steeply. Territory must not be lost to China in the process of playing politics.

Are they not already doing that? I seem to recall reports of incursions where the Chinese have managed to kill 20 Indians. This issue has been going on for decades, and the Chinese have already defeated the Indians pretty badly back in the 60s. Seems to me that deploying special ops forces could potentially escalate tensions if discovered. Is that de-escalating a pressure cooker?

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin, the SFF, in 1962, pushed back the PLA to the LAC from the Shyok. The SFF were responsible for India defeating Pakistan during the Kargil War. Knowing that India occupies the high ground in Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso and DBO brings China to the negotiating table to try and de-escalate tensions in these hotspots and the Hot Springs area. The incident in which 20 Indian troops were killed, including the Commander, was in Galwan Valley. The PLA troops took matters into their own hands during a patrol by Indian Army soldiers. The PLA lost an equal number of troops or more during the incident. To avoid another such incident, both sides agreed to negotiate measures to de-escalate tensions along the LAC. Nine such meetings have taken place thus far since the incident in Galwan Valley without resolve, because China renegs on mutually agreed de-escalation actions on its it's part.
