Can an MP carry their firearm off duty in any state?

I was curious as to whether or not an Army MP would be allowed to carry their personal weapon off duty. I’ve heard mixed responses, but apparently the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 was extended to military personnel in 2013 allowing them to carry off duty in all 50 states and D.C.
Can anyone fact check this?

You can apply for LEOSA creds after you are an MP for 6 years. After you get the creds, which costed me $150, you have to qualify with the pistol you are going to carry. The qualification is whatever the police in your area require.

In CT, I called the State safety office about getting an annual qualification, and they said no. They will not do military. Still trying to find a reliable NRA instructor who can run me through an MP LEO qualification, especially in covid times.

SFC John Barna - You only need to use LEO annual qualification tables. You do not need police departments to qualify you. Most I have talked to is that they go to a range and have an NRA instructor to certify it. But like you said it might be hard to get one available.

I have called several different gun stores with NRA classes to schedule a range fire, but it's been difficult. Not really worried about it until covid restrictions are lifted and I need travel across state lines for work again. I might try and get my wife to become and NRA instructor, just so she can do it for me!

LEOSA has certain requirements that one must meet. As long as they have a required CCW from the state they are in or reciprocity for the star they are in from their home state, they can legal carry outside of the base. Refer to LEOSA for requirements and time frame.

I want to add having LEOSA credentials still doesn’t allow you to carry on school property or federal buildings. It was designed to cut down on the rate of mass shootings in the U.S.

It’s really worth having because a lot of people have never heard of it. However, if a state you are carrying in requires you to have a yearly qualification, you have to have it for the state you are carrying in, example my state of Alabama doesn’t require you to have a qualification, so I don’t have to go to the range and qualify every year. So, be sure to check the requirements of states you are planning to carry in. Jason Duey II

I am located in Maryland I know they are VERY strict on concealed carrying, the biggest thing that I’m trying to figure out is whether or not I can get this in Maryland under 21.
