On the 50th anniversary of the beginning of American all-out determination to fight communism in Vietnam, the Times talked with four veterans who took part in the early days of the war. They shared some of their experiences of fighting for our country and then coming back home to it.

I had the privilege and honor to partake in two 101st Vietnam veterans reunions. I saw those were still struggling and those who were thriving. Men were crying and laughing at this somber event. I wish every Vietnam veteran had a reunion to go to.

Being a Tanker, I'm wondering why the TCs MG position is unmanned on the tank. I have never seen that in such a close in situation.
