My husband is a SSG in the Army (AD). This is our first experience with TDY en route PCS and TDY in general. I am helping him to put a plan together so our move is as smooth as possible. I am trying to figure out what happens with the family while the soldier is away on TDY. Background: he has orders in hand. We are stationed in fort A. His school is in fort B and is less then 20 weeks long which makes it TDY. Next duty station is in fort C. He is signing out of current station in fort A (in March) and is taking leave to move us to next station in fort C. Then going to fort B (class starts in April) for his school and coming back to fort C (report date in September). Orders state 60 days early report authorized. My question is what happens with BAH after he signs out of current duty station. Another question about on post housing: are they going to sign a lease with us in April or only after soldier arrives from his school and signs into the base. S1 is no help. Thank you in advance.

TDY is just temporary duty, nothing happens to your BAH.
Your spouse will be required to decide what to do with his family while TDY. I encourage you to attend the Levy brief with him because there are several options to do it and several different affects. Enough to till a levy brief

Thank you for a reply. I have researched a lot and found the form with those options and TDY that you are referring to. BUT S1 says that levy brief is for soldiers who are going OCONUS. We are CONUS and going to CONUS. I am confused myself as a spouse because I am aware of those levy briefs and my husband did them in the past. I keep telling my husband about that form with options and get it set up all correctly so we are not loosing in the end. I learned a lot from this forum and understand that the more SM gets authorized the better in the end.

Victoria Sia your husband is in a world of hurt if he hasn't returned his TDY option and he has a report date of April. That means he doesn't have orders yet either...and if he doesn't have orders then he doesn't have his 1610 to pay for TDY. If he doesn't get his TDY authorization he can't travel and will miss his class. Class seats are a finite resource, you cannot just show up a week late or to a later class and take someone else's seat.
