I graduated from BCT on 9/10/2020 as an 09S. I am trying to be placed on ADOS but my recruiter told me that because I haven’t been to AIT that I’m not a “qualified soldier”. Is this true and if so, is there anyway around this or to become qualified? I’m in a pre-OCS monthly drill and want to be exposed to other soldiers and leaders as much as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You are not eligible for ADOS until you have an MOS.

Thank you sir! Just seemed strange that I’m sort of in a holding pattern for next 1.5 years until I receive a commission and wanted another confirmation.

You can apply for ADOS when you have completed BOLC. You should discuss an AGR packet with your leadership too. SPC (Join to see)

AGR is my current goal which is why I was hoping to be put on ADOS for the time being. Is that packet something I should/can work on now? LTC (Join to see)

SPC (Join to see) Of you are in the Guard, I would be building a relationship with the State, MILPO.

There is a possibility Active Duty might visit your BOLC class and offer a chance to jump on orders for a few years. AD did this to my class, and Reservist that graduated BOLC at that time could get hooked up for the next three years. NG might be a little different.

But you have to become a qualified soldier. Right now, you've only done Basic Training, and are on par qualification wise with any E1 that graduated with you that is pre AIT.

For future consideration, you usually need to have completed your next level of military education for promotion to the next rank for various assignments with for extended periods, or if the assignment is rank limiting to be outside your window for promotion before the assignment is over.

Examples: As a 1LT I was qualified to apply for AGR since I had competed BOLC. Now, only a month later as a new CPT I am no longer qualified to apply for AGR since I don't have my CPT Course done.

Also, not long ago I was qualified to be an aide-de-camp for a 1 or 2 star general. CPT's can't do that. Nor can I be an XO of a Company (many TRADOC opportunities for LT's as XO's).

Become Branch Qualified and your mil e-mail will get slammed with extended assignment opportunities. A branch qualified 2LT is ripe for ADOS. You are far away from CPT where your next education will be required and getting promoted to 1LT while on ADOS probably wont impact your ADOS responsibilities.

I am afraid he is correct, you must complete AIT to be qualified.
