How is active duty life as an OSI special agent?

I recently stumbled across the career field of special investigations as I was seeking a way to merge my desire to become a military officer with my love for criminal justice. I was hoping somehow could briefly describe the life of an active duty OSI agent. How hard is it to get into? What is the training like? What is the current ops tempo? Also is this a career you can come into directly out of OTS or ROTC. I'm currently a police officer and will be nearing completion of my bachelors degree as my contract in the TXARNG ends. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

I can't speak to the Air Force OSI program. But the Army has CID, you could join as a CID agent and then later become a CID warrant officer in that field.

SFC (Join to see)
SPC (Join to see) it's not usually for initial entry but anyone can apply. They prefer actual police experience, but not required. The hardest prerequisite is that it requires 60SH of college and you can't be above a SGT. Most Soldiers who want to apply either don't have the credits, or don't get the credits till they're too late in their career to apply. Once you've been an agent for a while, usually around SSG for most MOS's, you can apply for WOCS and become a warrant Special Agent.

SFC (Join to see) Thank you for that advice SFC! Can you explain a bit more what the CID training and work environment is like?

SFC (Join to see)
SPC (Join to see) I can't tell you much about them except that they are the investigators. I imagine their role is similar to a detective in the police force. They usually wear civilian attire and are referred to as Special Agent. They investigate criminal cases like rape, assault, robbery etc.

Too late. By writing this you've told the world that you want to be one, which puts you on the radar, which makes it so you can't be one.
