What you're thinking of is called the Geographical Bachelor Program which ended years ago. Bottom line is if you're receiving BAH you will not be allowed to live in the barracks.

Married soldiers are not allowed to stay in the barracks except under extreme circumstances and then only temporarily. You cannot "choose" to stay in the barracks if you are married.

I appreciate it Sir. What if I have a kid outside my marriage? Which I do. Is that a thing Sir ? ~219687:LTC Bruce Burch]

SPC (Join to see) - Assuming you don't have custody of this kid. Do you pay child support or provide any kind of support for this kid? If you have proof you are the father, you should be able to enroll the kid as a dependent in DEERS and get them covered under your medical. In any case, this doesn't affect your BAH and has no bearing on being allowed to live in the barracks as a married soldier. However, if you were to get divorced you would live in the barracks and still get BAH for your child, if I remember correctly.

Currently deployed. No “BAH Fraud” If all I’m doing is asking a question ? Just a “standard” soldier asking a question. Just seeing if it was a thing. Jesus. ~326485:PO1 Andrew Gardiner]

SPC (Join to see) - If you have at least 51% custody, it is assumed you need somewhere to house the child during visitation, thus you get BAH for dependents, and don't live in the barracks.
