I will be ETSing in mid May, trying to get a sponsorship for a police academy in Florida.

If not I am trying to get into the academy in Tallahassee self sponsored. Any tips, advice, or help would be greatly appreciated. I only have one friend there and no contacts so building new relations would be extremely beneficial.

You don’t need sponsorship to apply to an LE academy. You need to just apply. Contact Human Resources for the city ask for the Veteran’s Liaison.

I would suggest checking for veterans in the area you are looking to go and see if any are in LE and then contact them directly to ask for advice and check for any guidance they could give.
