"I thought 'No problem.' I'll call the chief, cut through red tape, get him in. That's when I found out about the impediments corpsmen and medics face when they get home"

When I was in, I was told oh yeah you can work as a civilian as an EMT. Bullshit..the only civilitan job I could get was a phelbotemist. Granted this was in the 80s. I hear now all the medics are National Registry EMTs. That's cool.

SPC (Join to see) You mentioned FF / EMT.
In Colorado about 75% of the population is covered by Jolly Vollies.
Most outfits what a FF1 and EMT-B ticket and want you to get it on your dime.

SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. Makes me worried for those communities. I don't know the stats on texas, but my local communities seem to be mostly staffed firefighter, and supplemental jolly vollies (just learned that term. i like it!) The smaller communities in my area seem entirely volunteer-run.

SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. - Yes, as of 1/1/2016 I think all states will have the NRP as a requirement for Paramedic level practitioners. Where I live in PA we were one of the last hold out states for some reason. I think the biggest issue was the addition of the Advanced EMT's as PA did not recognize the I's prior to 2015. I did my EMT state level prior to the mandate for NREMT certs, but went in cold with 3 years working a rescue truck in the fire service and passed first try. Several of the medics here have had to use 2 to get past the NR-P. I think the computer adaptive is what is throwing off most of them...

They really push stuff like this at Post Deployment Yellow Ribbons, good stuff.

That is good news, but I noticed that looked like NG and AR only stuff.
Is there anything done for the regular service?

SPC Jan Allbright, M.Sc., R.S. I'm not sure. I know the Guard and Reserves push it, because they don't want Service Members to go straight from Deployed to Unemployed.
