I recently moved on to post and I’m curious if housing certifies you BAH rather than submitting a DD Form 5960. Does housing notify DFAS? Would submitting a 5960 be a waste? I haven’t even been paid base pay yet. I’m married with a child also. I’ve been back in since the beginning of August. If this is a dumb question. Square me away. TIA.

You have to submit your change of bah to finance every time you PCS. Housing only takes your bah

Lol I thought so. A housing representative told me that they were going to notify DFAS and I thought it was bogus. Appreciate it Sgt. I’m turning my 5960 in today after school. How long does it take to receive base pay Sgt?

SPC (Join to see) you should have gotten it today or tomorrow if you’ve been in since August. But why are you just now inprocessing finance if you’ve been in since August?

SPC (Join to see) - the PCS before this one finance started paying me my new BAH but I still had to do the 5960 and get it permed otherwise run the risk of having a records review happen and have to argue to not get my money taken away.

Only thing Housing will do is upload your residency into DFAS so they automatically know where to send your BAH to for rent. You will still need to submit a 5960 to Finance with a copy of your marriage certificate, a copy of your on post housing lease and, this part only applies if you were in the barracks prior to getting a house on post, a copy of your Barracks Clearing Memo (you can get this from Barracks Manager or from the office in your Battalion where they assign Single Soldiers living quarters; it’s a memo stating you no longer reside in the barracks) to Finance first in order to get BAH. Ensure once that’s all complete, you have all that documentation uploaded to iPerms in your personal record so that Big Army doesn’t revoke it from you.
