Is it easier to make rank in the Army Reserves or the Navy Reserves (E7 and above)?

Depends on the job skill and slotting........and willingness to travel far distances for promotion.

Just with the Navy I don't know if it would be that simple. As cheif (E7) they have to do certain things on active duty. I have heared in the army it isn't as big of deal as the navy makes it to be for that rank

AN (Join to see) - It all really boils down to your job skill, the slots available throughout the country and your willingness to travel. For example, I live in Pocatello, ID....and for my E7 promotion, I have to travel to MN since I promoted into that slot. There are not a lot of places I can go as a Preventive Medicine Senior NCO. So, if I want that promotion, I HAVE to travel.

MSG (Join to see) - The catch is with the Reserves, one is in a much better position to be able to "compromise" and put themselves into positions that would allow for advancement.

You'll have to take a look at the quotas and opportunity numbers. On the Navy side it ranges from mostly dismal on one end to a few high percentage hitters. The bulk of body counts shows the seagoing, intel, medical, and Seabees doing better. As always, you can be phenomenal and never reach the khakis while a semi slug can be in the right place at the right time because they happen to be in a MOS that has "need".
