It's actually an inside joke Capt (Join to see) based on the now infamous "Should a 2LT salute a 1LT" post by LT Rosa. I do believe all lower ranks should salute higher ranks, no matter what.

When you no longer have to salute, you'll miss it. I struggle not to salute at baseball games and my dog never returns the salute properly.

There is nothing wrong with powerpoint when used correctly. The problem is in the presentation. Having someone (audience member or instructor) read off slides for you over and over and over (and over) is a problem. Trying to put too much info into a slide is another problem.
