Does anyone have experience with accompanied OCONUS deployments and a type 1 Diabetic dependent?

Everyone situation is different, there is no one answer fits all. As I stated in your other post, an EFMP Screening will have to be completed and approved in order for your dependent to accompany you. No one on here can give you a precise answer because we are not the ones who have to do the screening nor do you know the OCONUS location, it’s not the same for each OCONUS location.

Not sure how Army deals with it, but in the Navy sailors had to have a care plan for dependents while deployed. We also had strong family support groups , and encouraged the families to get to know each other so they had an additional resource when gone. Also, there was a family support group member that the CO was able to call when there might be any problems and vice versa. Might also look into having another family member move in while gone.

The best thing you ca do is get as closely familiar with the Exceptional Family Member Program as you can. Ensure your wife is screened and enrolled with the program to be sure that she is close to all the resources she will need. The program will be worth their wait in gold as they will be sure you have the support you both need and they will also be able to help get you connected with folks in the same situation who can act as a peer group. Lean on your leadership as they will be the best to prepare you for your career and point you to resources.
