I was in EOD school and i loved it, however i was dropped from the school and now i have to wait a year to go back and try again. When i was reclassed i wasn't given a choice and became an 88M, Motor Transport Operator. The unit i was put in stabilizes their new soldiers with a W code and we cannot change duty stations for 3 years. Is there any way i can get out of this and go back to the job I love before I re-enlist?

Codes can be removed. Get a 4187 authorizing reclassification and a letter of release from your CSM. Your career counselor should be your first stop.

I have heard of that happening in this unit one time in 10 years so that doesnt look like a promising even, would it help if i won soldier of the year?

I would recommend you talk to your career counselor about your desire to see if it is feesible. You can also do some initial research on the web. It is all based on your about of time in service and if your window is available for re-enlistment.

Reclassification Opportunities
An awarded MOS, especially the PMOS, represents significant time and effort, both to the Army and the Soldier. Theneeds of the Army will be the overriding factor in reclassification actions.

According to this (this being different than the one that i have seen), my MOS has a shortage of lower enlisted, however the one i want to go into is neutral. The way it was explained to me is that you cannot transfer from a shortage to an over strenght, but i was never told about shortage to neutral. It also says that there has to be a "Y" in the out call column, but when i renlist i can choose another MOS correct?

It depends on your in/out calls when your window opens. Do you know when you are eligible to re-enlist? If not ask your career counselor.

20170316 will be a year from my ETS date. So there could be some major changes from now until then. The reason I'm getting a jump on it now is because the course is 11 months long and if I go back as soon as possible i can omit the first phase of it.

Pfc Bush... I dont know who told you that getting E-5 in 88M is a career killer as there are many opportunites for transfer within the Motor Transport specialty and I have dealt with many people who were a higher rank then E-5 within the Motor T world. Along with what everyone else in the thread, only way you can reclass is by re-enlisting and the only other way around that that i know of is to submit a packet for one of the Special Ops communities which Army does not consider EOD to be one of. Now its been a few years since I was in the Army or even an 88m but there is my two sense for what it is worth.
