I’m at risk of getting Med boarded and I’m wondering if I’d be able to switch branches? I’ve heard it a few times but idk if it’s a real thing. I’m currently army, would switch to the Air Force if possible.

PVT,
I would like you to think about this question and ask yourself, "does this make sense?" If you are medically discharges, you are assigned a disability rating by the army and are given an RE-3/4 re-enlistment code. These codes either require a waiver and a termination of disability pay in addition to numorous medical exams proving you are fit for duty AND there be a prior service slot open in the Air Force (which their quota has been filled already) and are non-waiverable for RE-4

It's hard enough in the Reserves to drill with a disability. Trust me I know because I am 60%. I drill for points only for BA's and only collect pay when on AT, that I have to pay back. As SSG (Join to see) and MSG (Join to see) state with getting a MEB Board why would you even think about switching or even coming back in and injuring yourself further? Take your disability pay and enjoy life. You have done more than most civilians ever have. You signed on the dotted line and swore an oath to protect this great nation. Take pride in that and continue your path as a civilian.

You get a Med Board....you stand damn near a 100% chance you will never be allowed back into the Service, regardless of Branch. What you have probably heard was people getting Chaptered for what ever medical reason, given an RE-2 or 3, submitting a waiver and it being approved. RARELY will someone that is a Med Board is allowed back into the Service. And the Air Force, I can tell you that they will tell you to "have a nice day, thanks for trying." They rarely take Prior Service from different branches even if they have an RE-1

If you get medically separated there is little to know chance of continued service after the fact. It would require overturning the names board decision and a waiver. Most medical separations are legitimate, if you are somehow looking for a quicker out so that you can transition you are taking the wrong path. If not I apologize for the insinuation. Ned board is usually and either or situation.

Oh no I would absolutely love to stay in the army and I’m trying to fight the separation. However I’m aware it’s very likely I’ll get pushed out anyway considering how injured I am. I just don’t want to be forever out of the military due to it all
