Beautiful base. The springs, just like any other area, especially military towns has some bad areas and crime. North part of the city is absolutely beautiful. Tons of outdoor stuff to do, shooting, hiking, skiing, trails, ect. Overall, it is a great place.

I've been here in Fort Carson a little more than 2 years now. It's wonderful place to be. Down south is Pueblo and West Cliffe areas where you can go fishing, boating and swimming in Pueblo reservoir but currently there is restriction on Pueblo reservoir for soldiers so please consider reading restricted zone before going there. Downtown Colorado Springs is cool with a lot of good restaurants and bars. If you have a off road capable vehicle or SUV, you can try to drive on Cheyenne Mountain's Old Stage Road for some good views of Colorado Springs. North of Colorado Springs is Castle Rock where you can shop at outlets. West side of Colorado Springs is Woodland Park and Divide where you can find some descent camping spots, fishing areas and hiking trails. If you like to go fishing but don't want to travel to far, there are spots like Quail Lake, Willow Springs Pond all within 15-20 minutes driving within the post. To summarize, it's mostly outdoor activities around Fort Carson.

It's a beautiful area, I just PCS'd from there. There is much to see and do if that is what you're asking. Colorado Springs has come a long way over the years along with the surrounding area. For restaurant and activities there's much to choose from. There's plenty of hiking trails and parks to see. If you have specific questions please feel free to ask.
