I was informed I was not going to have a "good year" if I didn't make up time I missed from my excused absences from "maternity leave"

Am I required to make up that time, even though my counseling states I am excused up to 84 days and doesn't state making up that time at all?

I feel like I'm being taken advantage of.

The crazy thing about excused absences from BTAs, is that time still has to be made up somehow IOT have a good year. For example, if I go on Orders to attend a BN or BDE UTB, and those orders go over a BTA weekend...I am excused from the BTA but I still have to make up those BTA days. So, while your leadership is correct in that you need to make up the dates, you should have been informed in that counseling. The easiest way to make up that time is do a bunch of Distance Learning courses thru ALMS. Mark your time on a DA Form 1380 (The hours will be 8 hours for 2 points and 4 hours for 1 point). Then you would also list the duties/activities performed during those hours.

No you are not required to make up the time, yes you would need to if you want it to be a good year. Your command is responsible for giving you every opportunity for a good year.

That said, check your points.
I suspect that they are bringing it up now because we are coming up on the end of the FY.
The FY is irrelevant to your own "good year" unless your Retirement Year Ending (RYE) date falls around SEP-OCT.
Your "good year" goes from your RYE date to RYE date.
Your RYE date is when you entered the reserves, or the last time you came off deployment in the reserves.

Unfortunately, most MDAY/TPU commanders, 1SGs, CSMs, and too many AGRs who should know better confuse "good years" with the FY.

Two separate issues.
1. No, you do not have to "make up" the time. You have authorized absences. You're not subjected to any discipline or adverse actions.
2. If you don't earn at least 35 points, in addition to your 15 membership points (to total 50), then you won't have a good year towards retirement. All you need the "good year" for is to acquire 20 of them to qualify for a "normal" reserve retirement.

It's not that you're being taken advantage of, it's just the way the point system works.
