Just trying to get some extra money on the side since my family has been heavily impacted by covid so I am just wondering if there is a reg on whether or not I can have a job outside the Army.

For clarification, I am looking to just be a teleworker for a survey company so I would have flexible hours that would not interfere with the Army.

I don't remember the reg, but you will need your Commander's approval. Start there.

I did this for one of my full time ARG NCO's.

I remember only writing a memo for approval. It was a red flag to me. But it was only for the holidays and extra money for that time period. The army already works us into the ground as it is, and I was worried he'd fail at his job, and my ass would be on the line.

I can guess what you make based on pay tables, presumed time in service, and a generic BAH. You should be doing pretty well. So there in lies the red flag. Your commander has that data down to the penny.

My worry with my NCO was getting him to a point he didn't need to run himself into the ground, and that would be my same concern in your situation.

I'd only recommend you be prepared to have similar questions asked. I know I'm only a 1LT as well, but I'm a 47 yo finance professional with a CFA/MBA so the warning alarms are going off.

I kept seeing something for FM 27-14 but that doesn't exist. I found this:

Ultimately it's up to your commander to approve so you have to talk to your company commander about it and they can say no - especially if it might interfere with work. But that's where you start is your leadership.
