I’ve been interested in attending the Army Mountain Warfare or Pathfinder school. My question is, how difficult is it to get a slot? I’m in the reserves currently as an Engineer. Is it primarily for Infantry or combat arms?

For Mountain Warfare transfer to the 86th IBCT (MTN) in the National Guard (VT, CT, MI, CO, NH and a few other states). The Engineers are mostly out of Vermont (I think). The school is mandatory for some positions and highly encouraged for everyone in the brigade. It's akin to 82nd and Airborne or 101st and Air Assault.

I'm fortunate to be in the brigade and was encourage to attend. It is an amazing school.

As SSG Ayscue said ask for schools when you reenlist.

REENLIST FOR IT! That is the best way to get a school. Remember that you can always ask for a school when you Re-up. It does not mean you will get it but if your unit can pull it off you will because they want the retention numbers

I also wanted to initially go to Army Mountain Warfare School, but I had not served before and entered Pathfinder School where I had to take an entrance exam as an essay. I should have tried to use https://samploon.com/free-essays/personality/ service for writing esse, and I was taken without any problems. But Army Mountain has a shorter list of requirements. But most likely they didn’t take me because I didn’t have any rank at that time.
