Who would a POC to transfer from drilling guardsman to IRR in the Louisiana National Guard and is it even possible? I have 3 years TIS and 3 years left on contract. I just started a federal civilian job and have been told by other reservist coworkers that it is a good thing to look into so that I can focus on my career progression/probationary requirements for my new federal job.

You would talk with your Command and Retention NCO for this. However, be advised that if you are a first termer....the IRR is only for the 2 years portion of your 6x2. You may have to come back to finish up the active time when IRR time is done. Again, speak with your Retention NCO for clarification.

He could try a hardship IRR packet but those are few and far between to get approved. I have one in now and it has been sitting at the 807th for 3 months now. But as SFC Livingston stated talk with retention.

SFC Steven Borders - It's the 807th. That is UBER LIMBO realm right there. They move at a pace of a snail stuck in molasses in the winter time under a rock.

You’ll need to talk to your readiness NCO and your Unit Retention NCO! What unit are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

I'm a current federal employee and can say that there are plenty of Reservists and Guard Members on the job. If you want to pursue this make sure you do it for you and what you want instead of what some rando told you. Sounds like you need to talk to your Leadership and retention NCO to review your options.
