Disrespect for the fallen in the Military...opinions?
These people make me sick. What are your opinions?
After 27 years in uniform, you'd think it would be impossible for a Soldier (or Sailor, or Airman, or Marine) to surprise me with their innovative ways to screw up. Once again, they have managed to astound me. This recent rash of incidences concerning funerals and disrespect to fallen/MIA crosses the line into complete insanity. The actions of these individuals is obscene and should be punished to the fullest extent allowed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice!
The most unfortunate part of all of these incidences is the fact that social media allows our embarrasment to spread across the entire planet. Ten years ago an idiot's actions could at least be kept local.
Oh, and as for the NCOs in the picture, figure out a way to make them Privates as quickly as possible while we process them for a Dishonorable Discharge. They are not leaders and I don't want them in our military!
I also find it slightly confusing that we all think our soldiers are incapable of doing such things, such as they did when disrespecting our flag. Yet we have soldiers who murder, rape, molest, domestically abuse, and all sorts of other heinous crimes daily.
And while I was extremely upset and maddened to see such blatant disrespect for our fallen service members and our flag, the crimes listed above sadden me even more.
On a side note, I believe it has been reported that the female who posted the pictures and her Senior NCO who defended her have been dismissed from the Wisconsin Honor Guard program permanently. I have not heard about any other actions though I am sure they'll be reduced in rank.
I actually didn't know that. That's even more saddening, because whatever state they're in, might not be as strict and punishing as the UCMJ. Like they'll get away easier off, or something.
(But that's speculating with zero knowledge of what each state can actually do to them.)
You have a good point, though, about everybody thinking soldiers are incapable of going astray. I guess with everything we're taught and the values that are beat into our heads from basic on up, we just expect everybody to do the right thing.
But of course, just like the reason we get Safety Briefings every Friday even though everyone knows what will be said, somebody is out there fucking it up for all of us. (Excuse my french.)
Now the media and civilians believe that we don't take Funerals and our dead seriously, and that we're all like the Guard or Reserve. (Sorry if anyone is Guard or Reserve in here) Let these offenders spend one week in Active duty, they'll go home with their tail between their legs by the time the week is out!
SSG Slover,
I did not know that. Regardless I hope they are held accountable for their actions and punished to the full extent.
