5th Ranger Battalion (reenacted)

We did a lot of events in conjunction with the Ranger Battalions of WWII and the Sons and Daughters of WWII Rangers.

We chose to focus on the 5th Rangers because, well, the 2nd received all the fame after Saving Private Ryan nd the Call of Duty games.

After all, the 5th Rangers were instrumental in opening the causeways that allowed the invasion force to move forward. After all, the famous General Cota phrase "Rangers, lead the way!" was uttered at Omaha Beach to elements of D Company, 5th Rangers.

After the breakout, the 5th were tasked to clean all gun emplacements along the coast for roughly 100 miles to the west, towards Utah beach.

The 5th Rangers were also instrumental in clearing the Brest Peninsula. (Nazi submarine pens).

To this day, one the 5th Rangers most brazen mission is still studied today and mentioned in Army publications, the Irsch-Zerf battle, where the 5th Rangers infiltrated deep into german lines to hold and clear the Irsch-Zerf road for 9 days, allowing XX Corps to move in.

And so on, the 1st, 3rd and 4th are famous for Africa and Italy, the 2nd for Point-du-Hoc and the 6th for the POW Raids.

We wanted to bring the important and unsung legacy of the 5th Ranger Battalion to light.

We were featured in the History Channel in several shows for the 60th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion. I'll post some pictures later.

I am a historian on TogetherWeServe and I am going to do some work on that today. I just put my cousin who was a pilot in WWII and an LTC who was a squadron commander in the 354th. I think history is something we should all be part of.
