Recently I signed a contract for 37F. I originally wanted to get a 68w with Option 40 contract or 18x because I was interested in Special Operations. I was told that all the slots are basically filled up for the rest of the fiscal year. They offered me psyops which I knew about and took because their mission seemed similar to Green Berets, go into a foreign country, interact with locals, convince them that working with the US is a good idea. Plus they work with Green Berets and Rangers. The problem is I'm starting to think 37F wouldn't be as exciting as I hoped. I mean no disrespect but I don't think I would like handing out leaflets all deployment. I heard one can change MOSs before shipping but it would require a lot of paperwork that recruiters may not be willing to do.

There are countless 37F who have never touched a leaflet. Leaflet drops are a thing of the past, since it's basically littering. They work with ALL levels of information - print, radio, tv, movies, cyber, social media, anything. They have 9th BN which is strictly tactical, and B Company works exclusively with Rangers and the heavier hitters.
If it was just leaflets it wouldn't be Special Operations. Some SF missions can be just as boring as "handing out leaflets" Remember CMF 18 isn't all about kicking doors and raids...they're primary role is master Infantry trainers for partner force/guerillas. Just because you get on an ODA doesn't mean you're running the streets shooting bad guys, just because you are on a MIST/TPT doesn't mean you're just sitting in a room making a pamphlet.
CA, PSYOP, SF are all on equal level (active duty wise). You can't do Unconventional Warfare (completely) without all three.

Even if you renegotiate it could add months to your processing time. It might be faster to just fail 37F, move onto the next MOS and then volunteer for RASP. You can always reclass after you make it into the regiment, and any MOS can volunteer for RASP. Option 40 is just a marketing ploy - any MOS in the Army and NG can volunteer at any time.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few more months anyway. More time to train

Brandon Alquisa My point is don’t hold out for an OPT40 it’s just a marketing tool. Also, if you do manage to renegotiate it may be months to a year before you ship out. You could already have passed RASP and be a Ranger, or you could be sitting around waiting for your ship date
