How should Courtesy Patrol be tailored to successfully and respectfully interact with Soldiers and Civilians?

It's no secret that many installations are again implementing Courtesy Patrols to improve general discipline and professionalism within the ranks. However, it seems that many of the issues actually stem from the civilian/spousal population, specifically in regard to the post dress code. Having served on several CP details on Schofield Barracks, HI, I have (on more than one occasion) had the rather unpleasant experience of notifying a civilian that their attire is inappropriate for the public establishments on post. Reactions vary from embarrassment to downright nasty to borderline abusive. <div><br></div><div>In an age where "booty shorts", thongs, and sports bras are seemingly normal attire, how can CP duty be set up to remain effective?</div>

bring an MP, I dont know, CP was hard in Korea simply because your abilities were limited, I can only imagine what interacting with civilians will be like,

I agree with having an MP do the CP with whatever unit is tasked with it. That way if things get out of control, as far as Civilians the MP can tighten them up quick. Or make a post policy that would force civilians on military installations to regard CP as a POST standard enforcement and failure to follow directives can result in some punitive action to that spouse/civilian. With the Soldiers I feel thats too easy. Mp escort. Take the military ID have them notify their chain of command to come pick it up and have the command take care of it.(this is for when soldiers get outta hand with CP)

Put CSMs out on courtesy patrol and I guarantee you the courtesy patrol will go away, as it should.

Hi SSG Bubba...I agree that the rank may be a factor out there but I do believe that putting a SNCO like CSM or Field Grade to Flag Officer out there is not a good idea. Its just like having the senior grades assuming crew duties and pulling motor stables on red leg time. It don't work. Instead of increasing the rank, how about decreasing the rank of a CP'er...like E-4s(P), and E-5s? I remember pulling CP OCONUS at those ranks. But CONUS is goofy. Too much politics.

so Low rank isnt good because people wont listen Higher rank isnt good for whatever reason. So I would have to guess that CP doesnt really have an effect if there is no one out there that has a position of authority backed by some rank to ensure some sort of necessary punishment (if needed) is enforced? I do not know of any senior grade officers or flag officers being in the motor pool assuming crew duties, it doesnt happen in our world. We would actually look at them funny wondering why they were outside in the elements instead of the A/C. If they were on CP, you know why they are there. Either way, it wont fix anything, people will always push the limits and try to find loop holes so their ill intentions can manifest.

I know down here at Ft. Benning, the CP was out on the weekends patrolling the establishments on Broadway to ensure that Soldiers don't get into trouble and embarrass the Army. Haven't seen anything about CPs on post yet, but I agree with a lot of the posts that dependents are really not going to care what someone other than an MP has to say to them concerning their clothing or the manner in which they act. Having pulled the duty myself both overseas and CONUS, unfortunately it is a necessary evil that is required, IMHO.

Give all CP designees a class entitled "be polite and don't be an asshole". That should cover most situations.
