Leave day is supposed to be October, ETS date is in August. Can a Soldier (first term, junior enlisted) be forced to PCS to Korea? I have tried to find the regs and read through the retention reg but couldn’t find anything. Thanks

Sure. After they reenlist or extend their contract. Contact your Retention NCO for further details as they would be the real SMEs on this one.

The brigade I was with when I was Active Duty fenced in all soldiers for what had been an indeterminate period of time, but about a year before my ETS date I found out that the fence expired for those of us who were among the 1st there (they stood up about 10 months after I arrived); however, I was specifically told by my 1SG I could not PCS unless I reupped if I was within 13 months of ETS. I just took him at his word; besides since I was sticking to my AD then Reserve plan, I didn't see any need to uproot and move until my contract ended anyway.

Sidebar: About the same time, we were told all soldiers new to the brigade were subject to a 48 month fence! Those poor bastards! LOL!!

This is one of those reenlist, extend, or sign a DEC statement kind of situations, unfortunately.

The Army pulled that stunt on me. They sent me to Germany. I had a choice of leaving my family and having to serve the remainder of my enlistment there (<2 years) or extending my enlistment to make it 3 years so my family could accompany me.

I sincerely believe that they do this on purpose.

Sorry, that should read >2 years. The single soldier tour was 2 years, but because I would only have a few months past that remaining they would keep me there.

I could be wrong, but no. Unless it has changed, you’re not allowed to ETS from Korea. You’d have to comeback to the states to actually go through the ETS process. Plus if you have less than 5 months those orders shouldn’t even be processed/exist for the simple fact you’re not meeting the SRR requirement of doing a full year there

Its not preferred that they ETS directly from Korea, but its not disallowed.

You can most definitely ETS from Korea. One of my buddy’s had 14 months before his ETS when he got to Korea. They kept him there over the 12 months to ETS him from there because he didn’t have enough time left to PCS
