Problem is most companies have no problem hiring "veterans" as long as they are young. I won't go as far to say they discriminate but soon as you tell someone you are retired military the next thing you hear is "you might be over qualified" for this job. Can't tell you how many entry-mid level jobs I applied for and was told this. Hell even the job i'm at right now one of the board members had issues hiring me because I was retired (you know made it to work for 20 plus years, stayed out trouble, moved up in rank, yeah not the kinda employee you want). During the interview he actually told me they "could not afford someone with my experience" to which I replied "Sir, don't look at it as you can't afford me, look at it as i'm willing to sell my skill set at a discount to your company." Guess is went over good cause I got the job but man it's tough out there, many other retirees I talk with say they run into the same thing.

Good reply to your board member. I would also have said "you can't afford to not hire me!"

Since the AFL-CIO is pretty much a defunct organization given the "progress" on the right-to-work front I don't think that this will be much of an issue.

Sorry bro. I just had a feeling someone would try to bring a suite against the company for discrimination. Would have voted ya up, but I hit my quota for the day!!!!!!
