What is the time-in-service remaining requirement for E6?

I am an army reserve (USAR) TPU NCO with a little under a year left until I ETS. I was picked up for E6 but told the orders would not be published because I needed to reenlist so that I had 36 months time-in-service (TIS) remaining from the promotion date. I did some digging, and as far as I can tell, the TIS remaining required for E6 has never been 36 months. It was 12 months for USAR TPU soldiers in the 2017 version of AR 600-8-19 (see 3-32), but it was removed completely in the current, 2019 version of the AR (see 3-33). Although, the TIS remaining requirement was and still is 36 months for SFC and above (senior/centralized promotions), so maybe that is where the individual who told me this got their information from? Am I correct that there is no minimum TIS remaining requirement for E6, or that it is only 12 months? If not, can someone point me to where in a reg it says 36 months? Thank you!

You must maintain the rank for 1 year IOT to retain the rank. The 36 months is probably referring to the "High Three" for years to wear it IOT to retire with the best SSG rank pay possible. I can't remember where that particular literature is...but I can try and do some digging.

Thank you SFC. I was aware of the high three rule, so no digging needed on that. I was specifically told that I needed to reenlist to get pinned because I didn't have enough TIS remaining, so I don't think they were just looking out for my retirement. I wonder how the requirement to maintain the rank/position for a year works if they have removed the TIS remaining requirement for promotion to E5/6? Would they just knock you back down a rank when you ETS if it falls short of a year?

SGT (Join to see) - Yep. Pretty much. For that aspect, I would need to do some more digging. For example, when I made SFC, I have to maintain the position I am in IOT retain SFC or I get dropped back to SSG.

You are correct, there is no SRR for promotion to SSG.
AR 600-8-19 dated 16 May 2019 is the most recent version.
