In the enlisting process and very interested in the army diving mos. The recruiter said it’s a 20% success rate and if failed, I would be put into any old random job, like a fueler or something which I don’t have an interest in personally.

I have a couple questions for those who have been through it,

Where is the points in the process where most fail or drop out? What strengths help increase the chance of passing? If you are close to pass, will you get recycled back into the course to try again?

If you passed the course, what did you feel helped them get through it over all the others? What do you think got you through it that the others didn’t have?

Thank you very much for any info! It’s greatly appreciated.

Don't take 12D diver as an initial entry MOS unless you are a superior swimmer, comfortable being under the water for a long time, and can run at least a 7 min mile for 4 or 5 miles. Otherwise, you will quit and the Army will give you a new job.

12D accepts reclass applicants early in their career. Get a job you like, put your dive reclass in and if you fail you will go back to your first job. You may find its not worth the suffering. Most people joining the Army discover they're not as tough as they imagined when they're vomiting on the side of the road, and that's OK. Just don't bet your first job on it.

I initially signed up for it. I didn't receive much information on it from my recruiter and was ill prepared for the pre-requisite training even. I was doing well in the classes and pt, other than the pull ups which is what caused me to have to drop out. We began the pre requisite with 12 trainees and only 1 went on to dive school. And you definitely get the "special of the week" as an MOS once you drop out. They let you fill out a wish list, but most of us just got fueler.

Awesome advice! Thanks for the info!

I’m guessing starting with another mos and changing is not very easy as well right?

Really appreciate it!
