I wanna know everyone's opinion on how the Army has changed. Stress cards during BCT, no more "smoking joes". I can see they say it's demeaning to the soldier but at the same time. They chose to be soldiers. They volunteered for what came and they knew there was smoke sessions and yelling involved. So how can the Army cater to brand new soldiers and punish the NCOs who try to correct them the way they were, the way that produced great soldiers? What is your opinion on NCOs getting counseled for yelling at a private who yelled at him first?

Didn't someone mention recently that the stress card thing was still a huge urban legend, and not actually truth? I know it comes up a lot around the RP answers form, SGT(P) (Join to see).

I'm not too sure really, I have heard a few soldiers discussing they had something similar but then again you can't believe everyone.

As the Detachment Sergeant for my unit, my Soldiers know where the pecking order of the food chain starts and ends. If the Juniors get out of line, I expect my NCO's to handle it. However, if my NCO's get out of line whilst they are handling a situation, then the NCO's will be addressed by me. If, all Leaders can get back to the basics of being Leaders, then these types of issues should go away. Besides, smoking a Soldier may not always be the answer. Some times you have to come up with different ways to get into their skulls and ensure the lesson is learned.

It seems as if the pecking order in my unit is E6 and above are the only NCOs. The soldiers treat E5s as equals almost. They do not have the respect they should and when they are told for example to stand at parade rest then refuse if you don't immediately stop trying to correct them and write a counseling you are walking the road to get a bad counseling as well. It could just be this unit but there is little respect for NCOs in the army and fraternization with NCOs and lower enlisted seems to be getting worse which doesn't help at all.
