Lost an OCIE item while currently in theater. Brought the issue to my first line and so on, but haven't had a straight a answer. Seems as though it's being avoided, but I'll handle it. I have it documented on my 1750 packing list. I just need guidance on where to go.

I kinda miss the old days where if a soldier lost something you just did a statement of charges. FLIPLs take forever and 90% of the time the soldier winds up paying for the item anyway.

MSG (Join to see) - yep. boxes and boxes of FLIPLs that were started but never completed. I came in and had to finish them up. Some of them were 3-4 years old and the SM had already ETSed. It was a nightmare. I contacted at least 100 soldiers who had the "missing" items sitting in their garage or attics and didn't know what to do with it. Told them to take it to their nearest armory or reserve center and have it sent. I recovered over $250K worth of missing gear in 18 months. What I couldn't get back the group CO (COL) eventually just wrote off.

FLIPL will need to be done. Investigating officer will make a recommendation on whether or not you are financially liable for the loss. IIRC, the first O5 in your chain of command can sign off on it. My last deployment I found dozens of connexes full of stuff that units had left in country and some LTC had written it off as field loss.
