You sign a 4 yr contract. 4yrs later you should be discharged. Example enter boot camp 1/1/2020 you should be discharged 1/1/2024 right?

My son said it didn't count. something about that's training not service. When I was in it did count that's why I asked.

Actually the calculation is 4 years minus one day, but yes any time you spend on active duty counts as time served, including the day you swore into active duty and hopped onto the plane.

That's what I thought, my son said no cause it's training. And not service. Guess he's wrong'

As mentioned by SFC Ralph E Kelley, your time in Boot Camp counts. For your above example, you would be discharged on 12/31/2023

That's what I said but my son said no So I thought they changed it.
