In addition to what LTC (Join to see) said, while going through a ch 5 you may be seen as a high risk and sending you on terminal leave might be a risk the commander is not willing to take on. If you do not get to take your terminal leave, you will get it paid out to you on your final check, you won't surrender or lose it. It's entirely up to the commander in this case as he is the only one who has all the information pertaining to your particular case.

MSG (Join to see) - they have to track you for metrics until your last day. But if you go out and commit a crime while on terminal leave, no one is going to come after your previous command. If that was the case, they wouldn't allow anyone to take transition/terminal leave.

LTC (Join to see) - Yeah your right sir, but i think to go back to the original question, this SM needs to have this conversation with his CoC, they will be in a better position and know all of the ins and outs of his Chapter to give him the answer he is looking for.

MSG (Join to see) - when all is said and done it is up to commander's discretion. But I've never seen a situation in the last 36 years where anyone was denied terminal/transition leave regardless of the circumstances of their discharge and I've seen some doozies....

Many years ago when I was chaptered under ch. 5, I was denied terminal leave and had to sell it for this very reason I put here.

PTDY is basically at your Commander's discretion, depending on the exact nature of your chapter the likelihood of it being granted is either higher or lower. You should be able to request PTDY through your CoC and then it is up to the CO to either approve or deny. As for terminal leave, it should be as simple as filling out a leave request form.

PV2 Timothy Maciel - PTDY is a benefit (basically an extra gift), whereas leave is something you've earned. It all depends on your commander. Usually you need to have a really compelling reason before they will grant you PTDY. If you're a single guy and you're simply moving home once you're chaptered, odds are they're not going to grant you PTDY. But you can take any leave you have accrued as terminal leave.

LTC (Join to see) ah I see, well thank you for that information. I am married but my wife lives back at home, so I'm just trying to move my stuff back since I'm pretty much just waiting. But I'll see what I can do.

PV2 Timothy Maciel - it wouldn't hurt to ask. the worst that can happen is they turn you down and you haven't lost anything.
