I was curious if any on RP have leveraged their military experience on the civilian sector side of the DoD. If so in what capacilty/role and what are some of the pros and cons related to your work.

For me, the organization I work for engages a slew of DoD contractors in a number of business sectors as well the DoD and all the military branches directly. Some of the pros - I'm privy to a lot of platforms before they are released to the public - cons I don't get to field test all the cool stuff.

I worked for Boeing for several years in IDS. I saw a lot of former air force techs on the payroll. Seems the military now is unable to repair anything due to the loss of skilled techs.

I've been a military program manager and contracting officer, a Contractor Program manager, an Army Civilian Program manager and now a Military contracting officer again until my mobilization is over and I'll go back to my civilian job. There is a lot of opportunity out there.

I worked for a defense contractor UNTIL they decided to block me from employment for SEVEN YEARS because I moved from DC to LA to marry my sweetheart. Kind of hard to get married without a job. Thanks General Dynamics!

Yes there seems to always be a catch - from 2 year contract to being subject to all sorts of rules, regs and policies.
