Why do so many military members come here to the internet to ask questions? Do NCOs no longer mentor their joes?

As a junior enlisted, I can say that my NCO support channel is great, if they know the answers. But I also like to have a broad spectrum of ideas and experience that I cant normally obtain from my Chain of Command.

It’s a resource. A lot of the folks who provide answers here cite relevant regs. It’s just another way for the soldier to find the answer. My ego isn’t so fragile that I need my soldiers to be beholden to me for all knowledge and wisdom. Go and use the tools at your disposal, as long as you get a good and proper resolution it’s no big deal to me.

SFC Thomas Foreman I agree with you, however, the leaders on the ground are more privy to local policies that exist that we here in RP land do not have access to. Or its been so long and things change so quick, that a lot of the information we used to know is not valid for that question. There is still nothing more valuable to a Soldier than the 1st line supervisor and squad leader.

MSG (Join to see) That is actually the beauty of Rally Point. Getting a broad scope view of the information, and then being sent back to their chain of command for further guidance. Honestly, if one of my troops had come to Rally Point for an answer, and then came to me for local guidance (as long as the information was appropriate) then I would probably be impressed with their ability to think outside the box.
