I recently submitted this to change my discharge from under honorable conditions to honorable after 7 years. What is the likely outcome so I may further my education and quit working dead end jobs?

There are Two reasons for upgrading a Discharge:

1) Inequitable means the reason or characterization of the discharge is not consistent with the policies and traditions of the service.

2) Improper means that the reason or characterization of the discharge is in error (i.e., is false, or violates a regulation or law).

You need to show why your status needs to be upgraded because of one of those two reasons.

Most discharges are NOT upgraded. There is no automatic upgrade. And the burden of proof is on you. It completely depends on WHY you received the characterization you did, and whether everything was documented correctly.

A1C Michael Reedy I wish I could be more encouraging, but I'd rather provide solid info where I can. Luckily, the process is simple, and for the government relatively fast 8-12 weeks~.

Most general under honorable and OTH discharges can be requested for an upgrade after 6-12 months, I don't know the criteria, so why did you wait for so long to request an upgrade? You have to have a flawless record during that time as well, and I mean no tickets or accidents...6 years is a long time to wait. I've read on several Vet Forums that their OTH never effected them, has it effected you? Are you willing to share why you didn't get an Honorable D/C? I'm curious. You're likely to get your request, sounds like you met the 'time' criteria.

Unable to use my post 911 gi Bill for starters. Tried re enlisting 2 years after discharge with no results. I'm at a point in my post military life now that I am comfortable going back to school and making enough to actually save instead of slaving my way through civilian life.

My discharge was the cause of financial misconduct on multiple occasions. GTC was the whopper, auto loan not being adequately paid, and star card. I'm not proud of myself on that account but I am proud to say I've made it work living off meager wages and awful vehicles for the past 7 years.

You'll get the upgrade...especially if you turned it around.

I have experience in Army review Boards. visit my site: https://www.fixmilitaryrecords.com Be aware that if you have 6 or more years of service, you are entitled to an Administrative Review and Personal Appearance Review prior to being discharged. Also, there is no wait time to file a Discharge Review or a Records Review when you leave service. You could apply for one the day after you are discharged.
