Do we as Americans have the capability to produce them?

Do we have the ability to man them?

Would having more be useful for us?

I tend to think the answer to all 3 is yes.

The actual cost isn't relevant. Carriers are amazing for global stability. They are great for world aid. There's a certain point where you have too many.. but I don't think we're there yet.

I agree Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS and although it is sole sourced therefore always going to be more expensive it is one of the things that sets America and the USN both aside and atop all of the competition even allies like the French and British. Look at the history of the French carrier, heck it took so long to build even the name changed. Its reliability is no where near a US ship.

To help spark discussion from the Navy side here is cool video from the Carrier Group prospective that could go either way. With this advanced technology we could do more with less or we can afford a more expensive carrier because we can protect the investment and having these advanced platform ensure our sea dominance well into the next generation. There is a quantifiable advantage to continues building and advancement just look at the space program.
