I will be looked at next year for pinning in 2022, if I make it. Assuming I'd pass, could I find a CW4 position, do a position vacancy board, and get it a year early? What are the steps involved in doing this?

Yes, this is possible, assuming you meet all minimum requirements for CW4, meet all other requirements per the published MILPER for the FY, and can find a unit willing to support it.

Position vacancy boards are now held by HRC once a year, normally around June, with the MILPER message with application instructions coming out in early in the year (last year's PVB MILPER came out in January).

The process is a unit will announce the position vacancy for a minimum of 30 days. After that period, the unit will compile and submit all submitted packets to HRC in accordance with MILPER instructions.
From there, the process is the same as normal TPU officer promotions; HRC conducts the board, publishes the promotion list, and the units submits the 56R and UMR position match to receive promotion orders.

LTC Daren Walker - Oh wow, I forgot about below the zone promotions. Thank you! Finding a CW4 position is going to be hard, but we'll see.

Thanks for sharing; especially appreciated the example provided. If you wouldn’t mind providing feedback, I have a specific RFI:

Status: CPT recently assigned to an O4 position (ARNG; M-Day; BDE PAO; 11A w/ 46A Qual; MCCC and PAO Course complete; Masters degree) with 3yrs TIG, but less than 9yrs of TIS.

Question: am I eligible to submit Vacancy Promotion packet now that I fill an O4 billet?
If not, can I do so once I hit 9yrs TIS (given I am “within one year” of 10yr TIS; this +\-1 year may only for Zone promotions)?
Or is there no way to PVB to MAJ with less than 10yrs TIS, though all other requirements are met?

Thanks in advance!

CPT (Join to see) It's TIG that matters rather than TIS. Minimum TIG for promotion to Major is four years. Once you hit that, watch for the PVB MILPER and go for it if your Commander supports it .

So does the PVB have there own board results, cause I don’t see a PVB result list out.
