Are combat badges unauthorized to wear in a deployed environment?

Is ALARACT 140-2007 still in effect, where it states combat badges are unauthorized to wear in a deployed environment? I saw a CPT here in Afghanistan wearing a CIB sewn on his MCUs.

I think the intent of that ALARACT was to keep soldiers from wearing pin-on badges while deployed, not sew on. However, like all things, unless it specifically said pin on instead of sew on (which didn't exist when the first ALARACT came out), then it is a no-go.. Hopefully it will be clarified when the new 670-1 comes out in 2054.

I think it comes two immediate Readiness... Turn on badges would suck under body armor.... I think the army takes position that soldiers need to be ready to respond at all times, also demonstrated with our carrying a rifle with ammunition at all times.

Pin-on badges happen to be right where the seat belt passes across the chest of the driver. After tearing two sets of ACUs that way, I stopped wearing the pin-ons.

Folks have stated in other discussions that "standards are standards" and there isn't a regulation which covers "regulations while deployed" so I understand the ALARACT is still in effect.</div><div><br></div><div>However it doesn't change the facts of the Stan: people will do what's allowed by their CoC over there. Even each FOB, COP, base, camp etc. I visited had drastically different standards. One minute you're getting drilled FOR NOT saluting, the next you're getting drilled FOR saluting...</div>

I got out of there in June but before that, Marmal was where I tanned so I had no complaints about the sun lol.

We had a big issue with that, our blackwater tanks would fill up too quickly because people weren't combat showering like they were supposed to, so we would have to shut down whole LSS's till Fluor could get out there to drain them. People would get so pissed off.

Ha! It took me three days to get out of Junction City because of the blizzard! I didn't miss anything and believe me, I didn't want to leave as bad as Kansas didn't want me to leave lol.
