Has the current Army learned from the US Army's experience in Vietnam?

I just recently had chats with a couple of new army ranking officers, who informed me that numbers equal facts. One even made a point to make me aware that 6000+ brothers and sisters were killed in the middle east. I hate when any of my military family get injured or killed, but sonce he was probably in grade school or high school when I was in and 57,000+ were killed I'll forgive him. We fought a war different than any in history, going onto it cold with no knowledge to speak of as how to fight it, but I have to believe our experience gave today 's army a little more up and up on the unknowns of warfare and what to do. We did not live by the book or the numbers, we lived from day to day trying to learn. my only desire is that some of our "learned the hard way" knowledge and experience has help them and save a few lives. I f I am wrong in what I think, please tell me.

SFC Collin McMillion, you are absolutely spot on! We learned a lot about fighting the insurgency through the experiences of those (including you) that fought before us. Sounds to me like you had a couple of pompass jackwagons wanting to feel good about themselves. I wish you would have asked them to show you their war face!
