I re-enlisted in January for 3 years with 18 months stabilization. July my stability will be up and I’ll have 18 months left before this contract is up. Would I be able to request to finish this contract in Drum? Would I have to re-enlist for it? Just about everyone I’ve seen stabilize ends up on orders to Korea after. Honestly don’t care to see Korea, has anyone done this or similar?

You could call or email your branch to volunteer foreign assignment at Fort Drum. Your contract would have to be extended to reach 2 years after your report date. However, at 18 months from ETS like you are now your branch will most likely tell you to re-enlist for the duty assignment, since you will have to re-enlist anyway. It takes the workload off of them and it allows the assignment to be your choice.
You also have to consider that since you are in a low-density MOS your branch has a very difficult time trying to fill Korea assignments. As soon as someone arrives in Korea your branch manager has to find another replacement. Korea is always a high priority assignment meaning that your branch manager is required to fill those slots before filling other slots.

Our MOS is actually one of the currently over strength MOS. They’re offering bonuses right now for reclass. I love my job so I don’t plan to reclass. However re-enlisting for it was definitely a thought that came up. Especially if I re-enlist for 2 years right at 15 months out it’ll really only be add a few extra months which I wouldn’t mind at all in order to get to Drum. It’s my wife that really wants me out

SGT (Join to see) you're confusing over strength and low density. Low density means that there are only a small percent, or small amount total in the army. Over strength means there are more of you than alloted at your grade. Once you are promoted you will no longer be over strength.
Also you have to reenlist three years to move duty stations. As I said earlier, your new ETS date must be two years later than the report date to your new assignment.

Oh ok well even the e5s are over strength our points to pick up are maxed right now but I see what you mean about low density. I finally got a hold of branch and they said they’re sending me to Korea for a year and I’ll report to Drum after SFC (Join to see)

SGT (Join to see) glad you got hold of your branch. Sorry to hear about Korea, but a lot of people love the assignments. E5 are not over strength in your MOS, you can find out the strength of your MOS in the IN/OUT calls. Your MOS is balanced at E5. Promotion points don't determine if your MOS is balanced. Promotion points are maxed because your MOS is small and E5 are balanced. So no E4s are being promoted until some above you promotes or retires.

After you're stability is up, you're pretty much needs of the Army. If you're about ready to deploy, you'll get more stabilization. You can reenlist to stay there, or get your duty station of choice, when the time comes. Keep a low profile and hopefully Korea isnt in your future. Korea is a good experience though. It is what you make of it. I had a good time (1999-2000) good luck!

That’s what I figured would happen. I guess I was trying to get a head start and make a request so I didn’t become needs of the Army lol. I’m trying to get to Drum because I know they have a deployment coming up but idk if they would let me break stabilization to try and catch that deployment. Not sure if it quite works like that. I talked to branch right after I stabilized about getting into 1st group support battalion since I’d still be here on JBLM and they pretty much politely told me to go f**k myself since the army already did me a favor by letting my stabilize

There is nothing wrong with being "needs of the Army."

Not saying anything wrong with it, just not sure if I’m going to stay in after this one and id like to finish out at Drum because it’s close to home. Won’t be upset about it if I can’t just a preference
