I propose that RP gets rid of the ability to not only DOWN vote but UP vote as well. If someone really has an opinion that they want the RP community to know then they can leave a comment as per usual but I think the voting aspect has gotten way out of hand. Yes it is exciting to see that your funny comment or intellectually stimulating post is well liked but I see a lot of people getting upset unnecessarily over a single DOWN vote. I was reading a post earlier, this is not the only example but it is the straw that broke the camel's back and incited this tirade, and I saw two NCOs  squabbling like children and arguing over something someone put on the internet. As an NCO you are the epitome of leadership and professionalism and to publicly express your rant against another NCO is unbecoming. If you really get that upset over a DOWN vote or something you disagree with why not send a private message and keep it between the two of you? I think we should just level the playing field and get rid of voting because some individuals can't seem to handle it without getting personally involved. All questions, comments, concerns, bitches, gripes, and complaints are welcome.

I think that the up and down votes can stay but if and ONLY if a comment is left that supports that vote.  So you could not process/send an up or down vote without leaving some type of comment.  Perhaps have a minimum word count for this to ensure that people don't just leave a single letter or word as a comment as a way to get around it.

We in the Military are tasked to take decisions sometimes without real evidence, going only on experience, a gut feeling, or a combination of both.  Afterwards though, we are often tasked with explaining why we took the actions we did.  This should be reflected here too, otherwise RP becomes a Military version of FaceBook, where very few comments have any real value, and "likes" mean absolutely nothing.

SGT, I'm going to apply your logic by commenting to go with my UP vote. Well said and good suggestion. I liked how you tied in the military aspect of it and I think you have a very valid point when it comes to RP essentially becoming a second Facebook.

Leave the up vote and down vote because if an issue is hot it needs to be discussed no matter what good and bad. NCO make mistakes too. but we can learn for those mistakes and it will allow all us nco's to be better leaders.

At first I thought the voting was a bad thing.  But, now I find that similar to the "like" on LinkedIn the vote up is a nice way to provide supportive feedback without any comment.

I do have a problem with the concept of the vote down.  It is too much like the original facebook where guys voted up or voted down based on the looks of a woman.

I feel good when someone shows support by vote up.  So, no harm is done by vote up.

I felt bad when someone voted my comment down once and there was no explanation.

Warmest Regards, Sandy

Thank you for your input ma'am, I like the UP vote but I don't want the DOWN vote to think I'm playing favorites by saying he should be the only one to go (insert humor).
