A new section for points, Group Contributions, include canvas and logo images. Do copyright laws affect what members can upload?

From what I recall, you own the photos you create. However, it seems many topic pages include photos copied from a search engine. Will this become an issue in the future?

I wrote up a post for the Command Post and had it reviewed. It was accompanied with an image that was copyrighted. They checked the image to ensure that it was within the realm of fair use (as most things posted on the internet are) and we were clear to use it.
Most of what is posted on the Internet falls into the fair use category unless it is specifically copyrighted, and those are generally better protected or watermarked.

Thanks for sharing, Sir. For a while, I was playing it safe by only uploading photos I personally took.

We try to steer away from anything that is copyrighted as to not create confusion about the accredited source. When it comes to things that are specifically endorsed by RP (like Command Post) we use exclusively images that are marked as appropriate for redistribution.
For the purpose of canvas images for topics and groups (or images on discussions), we can be more flexible with where photos come from, and in general a photo is okay as long as there is no copyright or watermark on the photo. Flickr can be a great source for photos like this as it is very clear if the public has permission to download and use the photo.

Yes. If you post someone's intellectual property you need to at least provide credit to the person. Things like memes and humor are generally not a problem though.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad - I was trying to make a funny insult regarding your original comment.
