Just when talk about replacing it tries to stoke up again, someone appears to have woke up & realized that if "The Bear" decides to start trouble again, we need a proven CAS tank-buster for a military that is very much mechanized & tank based.

It's a smart move in my opinion. Armored columns would have difficulty moving west with this beast of a plane circling overhead. This is probably the best tank killer of a plane ever designed. Hopefully the mere presence of this weapon system would make anyone think twice before starting trouble with our NATO allies.

NIIICE!!! She's slow, she's ugly....but damn it's a fantastic aircraft. The A-10 and the F-15 are probably two of the finest fighting aircraft in our jet-age history, with the F-16 and F-18 not far behind.
I think that this aircraft definitely needs to be retained in the arsenal for it's role in CAS, as you simply cannot get the same turn and bank out of an F-16/F-18.
My favorite memory was an air show in Davenport, Iowa. They had a low ceiling that day (500ft AGL), and there was a MAJ that had recently returned from Afghanistan that was determined to give us a show. They do an anti-tank demonstration as part of the routine, and normally it's done in a very "lazy" manner (I'm sure it's still a workout). This day, there was no routine manner. He popped and cranked hard on that yoke....NEVER touched the clouds. You could see the wingtip vortices, and MAN it was wicked. I tried to find the video (funny part is, you could see me in the video in my German paratrooper uniform, as I was there to support the CAF's JU-52. (Great time....miserable weather, AMAZING). Unfortunately, they took it down and I can't find a comparable one. It was incredible to watch and gave me goosebumps.
My hats off to the pilots of the "Monster", and I hope that they continue to be able to infuse terrorists with depleted uranium at ungodly rates of fire for years to come.
