Today there was a huge debate: How do you feel about the military as a whole having service tapes to denote the soldiers that are in the reserve and national guard. ie ANG, AR, AFNG, AFR, Marines etc...

Sounds like a waste of time and money that would only result in further alienating the irregulars.
Is there some purpose I'm not seeing beyond labelling me as a second class soldier? If that is the goal, what benefit does it provide for the service?

I've been around troops long enough to know of the prejudices between regulars and irregulars. That attitude predates our nation.
I don't have to agree with a position in order to understand it.

SSG Hasbun I just came out of a AC/RC position and this conversation was a very popular and common as new Soldiers came to the unit. To the point where a common excuse from TPU Soldiers is " I'm just a Reservist"

Sigh... they said that huh? That sucks.. In my duty position, I work a lot with the NG, and I have to admit to having a newfound respect for them. There's a lot of things they do very well, and some things they far outperform the AD on...

Here's the thing, I don't consider myself "just" a Reservist, yet I think this is a retarded idea. You've got active duty Signaleers who can't spell computer right three times out of five who will tell me I'm a dirtbag because I'm a Reservist.
Uh, no. One team, one fight. When I'm in uniform, that nametape needs to read 'U.S. Army'. Nothing else.

Exactly, SSG Woodard! When the lead starts flying, what service's uniform you wear, or what component you are in will not matter. We fight for those on our right and left.
Come back with your shield, or upon it.

Actually, SSG Woodard, we are now "Army Strong" . . . the "Army of One" died in '06. I think we should bring back "Be All You Can Be". Those corny commercials were a riot!

Interesting Army of One slogan can have a double meaning. It sounds like deemphasizes the team part...but it can also mean One Team, the Army Team.

If you think there was a culture of "second-class citizen" with branch insignia and unit patches, it would only get worse by putting component....
