After my 4 year obligation with the Marine Corps I switched into the Army Reserve and enlisted for 6 years. Can I choose to go back to the IRR whenever I do so please or am I under obligation with the Reserve?

You already have over your 8 mandatory years so is all up to you at this point.

You should SPC Onel Cruz. The branch is separate and since your obligation with the Reserves is an after active duty (no cost for them) going into IRR shouldn’t be a problem. Word of advice: the unit might get mad since your actions will count towards its manpower!

But here’s the thing, I did request to switch MOS so I don’t know if I would be under obligation at that point. MAJ Javier Rivera

why did you switch if you were just wanting to go IRR as soon as possible?

SPC Onel Cruz - understandable. my daughter was 35F, intel analyst, and 3 months after she made E5 they reorganized the UMR and her slot went away. They gave her the option of either reclassing to MP or driving 200 miles to another unit. So she went IRR for her last 2 years

Obligation for call-up, yes. Obligation to attend meetings and other Reserve activities, usually no. If I recall correctly, you may volunteer for deployment and annual training.
