It is still HOT and WET this time of year in Vietnam.
However ... back on the home front...

President Johnson signs into law a bill making it illegal to destroy or mutilate a U.S. draft card, with penalties of up to five years and a $10,000 fine.

I would be born 4 days later and realizing as I got older that this day was instrumental in a later action by President Nixon in 1973 that would eventually allow me to enlist into an all volunteer force...
Draft Card Not Required...
My appreciation goes out to a great number of the "Greatest Generation" and others who gave a lot to make this happen... Thank you! :)

When this was originally posted 8 years ago, it had only been 42 years since I joined. This year is my 50th year since joining the US Army 9th Infantry in Washing State at Fort Lewis. Came close to going to Vietnam twice, but only airborne once. By the way, I am not crazy enough to jump out of perfectly good airplane. I was and to this day, a Ground Pounder. The knees don't work like they did back then, but I can walk any distance without getting winded.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
