If your unit sends you to airborne school, do you have to PCS to an airborne unit after?

A non airborne unit is not authorized to send soldiers to Airborne School. You can request to go to Airborne School TDY enroute to an Airborne unit. When you go to Airborne School, you will owe 36 months of time in an Airborne unit. You can reference that in AR 614 - 200

COL Jon Thompson a few years ago non airborne units could send soldiers. That's no longer the case. Now a soldier must be on assignment to an airborne unit, or in an airborne slot to hold an ATRRS reservation for BAT.

SFC (Join to see) I want to go Airborne but have been told it’s pretty much impossible for a 68C to do so, unless you go to one of the few airborne FSTs. Are there other options people don’t know about?

SPC (Join to see) call your branch manager and ask to go to airborne school. You'll go TDY enroute to an airborne unit. Or if you're in your reenlistment window, bring your airborne physical to your Career Counselor and they'll request airborne school for you. Again, you'll attend TDY enroute to an airborne assignment.

Joking aside,. If you have the option to go Airborne, do it! Its an awesome opportunity, opens up more units, you get to freaking jump out of planes, get a bit more money each month. And as PV2 Greg Foster stated, you wouldnt be a dirty nasty leg... AATW!

MAJ Tex Hall - Absolutely, and especially if something is offered and you turn it down, who knows when/if it will be offered again.
